Referred By: LeAnna Sigle Meeks and Irwin Sigle Family Member? How are you related? Christoph F Sigle, Sr. is my Great-Great Grandfather Age: 61 City/State/Country: Shawnee, KS Comments: Now that I'm retired I'm starting to dig into previous work by Irwin (Red) Sigle (father Howard/Frank Sr/Christoph Sr) and my mother, Leanna Sigle Meeks (Frank Jr/Frank Sr/Christoph Sr) and I recalled Mom showing me this website several years ago. I recall the Sigle-Sperry reunions in Beloit...that was our one trip per year to a public pool...as Sylvan Grove didn't have one...but, we had the lake! In about 1972 or '73...we made a trip to Richard Sigle's farm and he gave us two goats for our little farm outside Sylvan. Eugene Tuttle (Vera's son) gave me a tour of the Frank Sigle, Sr. rented farm in Cedron township. Our next trip is to see the where the original Christoph Sr. sod house stood near a creek. I noticed on a 1901 property map of Cedron Township that a "C.F. Sigle" had a "Stock and Grain Farm" of 160 acres 3 miles east and 1/2 mile south of the NW corner of Lincoln County. I plan to explore it in my next trip to Sylvan. It appears in my notes and maps to be the location of the original sod house. Thanks for all your work on this site!

Referred By: Google Family Member? How are you related? Helen Sigle Gosset Age: 22 City/State/Country: Oregon/USA Comments: Thank you for this website. Helen Gosset is my great grandmother. I've been digging into my family tree and was so happy to stumble across this blog. I don't think I ever met my great grandma but I remember hearing about her passing when I was a child in the early 2000's. Reading about her and her brothers adventures has been cool and I like learning about my past relatives.

Referred By: Google Family Member? How are you related? Father in 780 first pilot of the Agony Wagon Age: 66 City/State/Country: Castro/ Valley/ CA?USA Comments: My father Lt Marcellus H Stromberg was the first pilot of the Agony Wagon. He named it after a target plane near San Antonio Texas that was full of holes. Some one had painted Agony Wagon on that plane. I see in one of the posts someone said that a plane by that name was flown back to the states. My father left it with 54 missions, but it was hit over Vienna in the last months of the war and made it back as far as the Bay of Naples where it went into the waters. There were many Agony Wagons so I'm sure some made it back. I have a book that covers only the 780th sq written by Major Charles Davis in 1946. It has a lot of photos of crew members from that unit, what was your fathers name?

Referred By: Post about B-24'S Family Member? How are you related? nO Age: 61 City/State/Country: Orlando, Fl. USA Comments: Nice web site. My father was a pilot of a PBY. They flew out of Washington state and made sweeps up and through the Aleutian Islands, looking for downed pilots or enemy subs and planes. I wish he had shared more of his experiences and had recorded and written about his experiences. We lost him in 1994 at the young age of 69 to blocked carotid arteries and a heart attack. His military flight gear and Navy items are on display at the museum in Lander, Wyoming. He put them on loan in 1990, as he was born and raised in the Lander area. I was fortunate to serve under his co-pilot while I was stationed in Iceland in 1973-4. His name was Navy Commander William (Bill) Hill. Base Commander-Keflavik, Iceland. Thank you for keeping the memories alive of the greatest Generation. Best Regards, Mark young
Referred By: Surfed In Family Member? How are you related? No relation. Grandfather was a bombardier Age: 49 City/State/Country: La Mirada, CA USA Comments: Great website. You are so blessed to have had the opportunity to record this for posterity. My grandfather was a bombardier in a B-24 in China Burma India during WW2. He never thought he did anything heroic and didn't really talk much about his experiences. I have put together a website - www.dainthecbi.com - using memorabilia from his service time. It has been a great experience learning about what he and his crew members went through, and trying to reach those who are still alive and able to help me understand. That is how I came to your website. I was looking for info about your dad's bombardier, Gene Kocsinski, and ended up here. I am glad I did. Thanks for making this a part of recorded history. Regards, Michael
